Schioppettino, Syrah, a splash of Vermentino
GROWING
Soil Type: Red clay loam
Mt Camel Vineyard of Chalmers family (on the lower slopes)
WINEMAKING
Blend of Schioppettino and Syrah rosé with just a splash of Vermentino.
Each variety had a separate fermentation in a mix of stainless steel vessels and a ceramic egg.
Using the same semi-liquid-carbonic maceration technique that Dane has perfected over the years.
The wines rested in their vessels over Autumn and Winter, and then were racked only once to blend before getting bottled at the end of spring.
Bottled by gravity with 15ppm so2 added just prior to that.
WHAT'S GOOD?
This is a brand new cuvée for 2022.
Highly drinkable rosé-esque wine that is poised, structured and energetic.
Tastes light and fresh whilst still having a good amount of complex flesh and vibrant acidity.
Note from the winemaker:
“This is one of my favourite wines from the stellar set of 2022’s. It's very refined and very clean but with loads of complexity and character as well.
The term “energy” is thrown around a lot in wine talk but for me that “energy” comes from wines that have not been overhandled. This wine (as with all of the wines) was only racked once to blend prior to bottling and retains a lot of that energy.”
