• Merlot from the Magpie Springs farm in Hope Valley, with sand soil on a hilltop near the ocean, occasionally experiencing strong ocean breezes

• Syrah from Brackenwood in Hope Forest, with deep red clay soils and 25-year-old vines that are VSP-trained and spur-pruned

• The wine is an assemblage

• Late spring warms the soft, dark forest, where red currants, raspberries, and mulberries stain our shirts with tart, sweet red juice

• An honest wine for pirates, sailors, gauchos, bricklayers, and princesses
